Jesus Birth by the Tenakh

Jesus Birth by the Tenakh
17 pages

This article is going to explore words such as: Conception, Birth, Dedication, light/glory, Feast, Chanukkah.

Besides Noah's timeline and Haggai 2 on the 9th month and 24th day, Matthew 1-4 and Luke 1-4, I will use a lot of cross references.

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
This verse in the Hebrew and using geometry is in the shape of an Menorah (7 branch candlelabra) which was used in the Tabernacle and Temple and is also in Revelation.

Chanukkah is known as the Feast of Dedication and the Festival of light.
Light: H216 'ôr; ore' From H215; illumination or (concretely) luminary (in every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): - bright, clear, + day, light (-ning), morning, sun.
H215 'ôr; ore; A primitive root; to be (causatively make) luminous (literally and metaphorically): - X break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.
So we have light, luminary, illumination, bright, clear, Sun, glory, kindle, set on fire, and shine.

Psa_27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psa_119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Pro_6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Psa_118:27 God is the LORD, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.
Joh_10:22, 42. And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. Yeshua was at the Feast of Dedication in the winter.
Dedication, Feast of
Joh_10:22. In "winter," about our December (1Ma_4:52-59; 2Ma_10:5). Commemorating the purging of the temple and rebuilding of the altar after Judas Maccabaeus had driven out the Syrians, 164 B.C. It began on the 25th of Chisleu (December), the anniversary of Antiochus Epiphanes' pollution of the temple 167 B.C. Lasted eight days. Celebrated like the feast of tabernacles with much joy and singing, and with carrying of branches. The Hallel was sung in the temple daily. The feast was called "lights," and there was much illumination of houses. The "dedication of the second temple" was on the 3rd of Adar (Ezr_6:15-16); that of Solomon's temple at the feast of tabernacles (1Ki_8:2; 2Ch_5:3). The Fast is also called the Feast of Renewing.
DEDICATION, FEAST OF THE.―After the desecration of the Temple and altar by Antiochus Epiphanes, Judas Maccabæus re-consecrated them in B.C. 165 on the 25th day of Chislev (December); cf. 1Ma_4:52-59, 2Ma_10:6. This event was henceforward celebrated by a feast all over the country (Joh_10:22). It lasted 8 days. There was no suspension of business or labour, and but few additions were made to the ordinary synagogue services. The special feature of the festival was the illumination of private houses, whence came its alternative name―‘the Feast of Lights.’ (There were divergent rules for these illuminations in the various schools of traditionalists.) It was an occasion for feasting and jollity: the people assembled at the synagogues, carrying branches of palms and other trees; the services were jubilant, no fast or mourning could begin during the period, and the Hallel (Psa_113:1-9; Psa_114:1-8; Psa_115:1-18; Psa_116:1-19; Psa_117:1-2; Psa_118:1-29) was chanted. The resemblances of this celebration to the Feast of Tabernacles were perhaps intentional.
It was instituted 164 B.C. to commemorate the purging of the temple after its pollution by Antiochus Epiphanes (167 B.C.), and the rebuilding of the altar after the Syrian invaders had been driven out by Judas Maccabaeus. It lasted for eight days, beginning on the 25th of the month Chisleu (December), which was often a period of heavy rains (Ezr_10:9, Ezr_10:13). It was an occasion of much rejoicing and festivity.
But there were other dedications of the temple.
(1.) That of Solomon's temple (1Ki_8:2; 2Ch_5:3);
(2.) the dedication in the days of Hezekiah (2 Chr. 29); and
(3.) the dedication of the temple after the Captivity (Ezr_6:16).

Conception for Jesus comes from the word light. Light is found in many places in the Tenakh and in Psalms.

Conception is found in 3 places but conceive is found in many more places.
Gen_3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Rth_4:13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
Hos_9:11 As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

Isa_7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Luk_1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
Conceive H3179 yâcham; yaw-kham'
A primitive root; Probably to be hot; figuratively to conceive: - get heat, be hot, conceive, be warm.
Conception H2032 hêrôn hêrâyôn; hay-rone', hay-raw-yone'
From H2029; pregnancy: - conception.
H2029 hârâh; haw-raw'
A primitive root; to be (or become) pregnant, conceive (literally of figuratively): - been, be with child, conceive, progenitor.
Holy Spirit and Conception
The Holy Spirit is God; a Person within the Godhead; the Third Person, the knowledge of whom depends on the revelation of the Father and the Son, from both of whom He proceeds. He was in the world, and spoke by the prophets before the Word became flesh, and was Himself the agent in that creative act. Through Him the atonement was consummated. He is the life-giving presence within the universal Church, the Divine agent in its sacramental and authoritative acts; communicating Himself as a presence and power to the individual Christian; mediating to him forgiveness and new birth; nourishing, increasing, and purifying his whole personality; knitting him into the fellowship of saints; and finally, through the resurrection of the body, bringing him to the fulness of eternal life.
In the New Testament used in the KJV In the Old Testament "the Holy Spirit" (Psa_51:11; Isa_63:10-11). The Hebrew ruwach, and Greek pneuma, is the same for both "Spirit" and "Spirit." His personality is proved by attributes and acts being attributed to Him peculiarly. Gen_1:2, "the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters" at creation, as distinct from the Word's operation (Gen_1:3). He "strove with man" before the flood (Gen_6:3). He "came upon" Saul (1Sa_10:10) and "upon David," and then "the Spirit of Jehovah departed from Saul" (1Sa_16:13-14). David prays "take not Thy Holy Spirit from me" (Psa_51:11). Israel "vexed God's Holy Spirit," though He had "put His Holy Spirit within" Moses, Israel's leader, and "the Spirit of Jehovah" had "caused Israel to rest" in the promised land after his wilderness wanderings (Isa_63:11-12; Isa_63:14).
He is invoked in prayer to revive Israel long dead spiritually and politically (Eze_37:9): "Come, O Life breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live." Son_4:16, the Heavenly Bridegroom calls for (Joh_14:16) the Holy Spirit first as the" N. wind" to "awake," i.e. arise strongly as a Reprover (Joh_16:8-11), then like the S. wind to "come" gently as the Comforter (Joh_14:16). He first clears away the mists of gloom, error, unbelief, and sin, which intercept the light of the Sun of righteousness; then He infuses spiritual warmth, causing the "spices" (i.e. graces) to "flow out" (2Co_4:6). The coming renewal or "regeneration" of the earth shall be through God's "sending forth His creating Spirit" (Psa_104:30; Isa_32:15). The restorations after the flood, and on a smaller scale every spring after winter's deadness, are an earnest of it (Mat_19:28; Rev_21:5).
At the opening of New Testament it is written respecting our Lord's body "that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit" (Mat_1:20); and to Mary herself the angel said, "the Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee" (Luk_1:35). His personal agency is marked by His "descending in a bodily shape like a dove" upon Christ at His baptism (Luk_3:22; Joh_1:32-33). His office is distinguished from that of Christ, and yet identified with it: "I will pray the Father, and He shall give you ANOTHER Comforter ... the Spirit of truth .... I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you." The Father "sends the Holy Spirit the Comforter in Christ's name," (i.e. representing Christ: Christ absent in the flesh, that He may be more than ever present in Spirit): Joh_14:16-18; Joh_14:26. The Father gives, promises, and sends Him, but is not sent.
The Son must go that He may come (Joh_16:7-14), so that "it is expedient" for the church that Christ should go away, in order that Christ's finished work may be applied to the soul by the Holy Spirit (Joh_7:39). "He shall receive ... take of Mine, and show it unto you." The Son "sends" forth "the Spirit of truth which proceedeth from the Father" (Joh_15:26). The Constantinopolitan Council (A.D. 381) therefore added to the Nicene Creed "who proceedeth from the Father." The western churches added "and from the Son," which Scripture sanctions, though originally inserted by Reccared, king of a portion of Spain, A.D. 589, at the third council of Toledo; opposed by Leo III., bishop of Rome; accepted by Pope Nicholas I.; but always rejected by the eastern churches. His Godhead, distinct personality, and oneness with the Father and the Son, are implied in the baptismal formula enjoined by Christ (Mat_28:19).
As Christ intercedes for us in heaven, so the Holy Spirit intercedes in us on earth, "for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God" (Rom_8:26); thus He "helpeth our infirmities," and is the Paraclete in both senses, as Intercessor and Comforter. He calls and qualifies ministers for their work. Act_13:1-2, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them." He makes them "overseers over the flock" (Act_20:28). He "hears," "speaks," "teaches," "guides into all truth," "glorifies Christ," "receives of Christ's things," namely, from the Father and Son, "and shows them," "brings all Christ's words to His people's remembrance," "shows things to come," "knoweth the things of God," "searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God," and "reveals them" to the Spirit taught (1Co_2:9-15); therefore is divine.
Ananias' "lying" to Him is called "lying unto God" (Act_5:3-4; Act_5:9), and "tempting (putting to the proof) the Spirit of the Lord." "Where He is, there is liberty" (2Co_3:17). The writers of Holy Scripture "spoke as they were moved by the Holy, Spirit," "not by the will of man" (2Pe_1:21). "The Spirit of Jehovah spoke by David" (2Sa_23:2), and "God testified against Israel by His Spirit in His prophets," and "gave His good Spirit to instruct them" (Neh_9:30; Neh_9:20). The sin against Him is unpardonable, whereas sin against the Son is pardonable; because the former is against Him who alone can make the Son's work effectual to each soul (Mat_12:31-32). "Except a man be born of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God" (Joh_3:5). "God sends," in the case of His sons by adoption, "the Spirit of His Son into their hearts crying, Abba, Father" (Gal_4:6; Rom_8:15; Rom_8:17).
They are "led by the Spirit of God" who "beareth witness with their spirit, that they are the children of God." "After they have believed, they are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the (final) redemption of the purchased possession" (Eph_1:13-14; also 2Co_1:21-22). The sanctification of believers is His especial work (2Th_2:13; 1Pe_1:2). We are warned not to "grieve" or "quench" Him (Eph_4:30; 1Th_5:19). Between Christ's ascension and return continues the dispensation of the Spirit; the true church is now "the temple of the Holy Spirit," in which believers are "living stones" "builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit" (Eph_2:22); "living in the Spirit and walking in the Spirit" (Gal_5:25); "by one Spirit baptized into one body ... and made to drink into one Spirit," for "no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit" (1Co_12:3; 1Co_12:13; 1Co_6:19; 1Co_3:16-17; 2Co_3:8; Act_19:1-5).
All the various spiritual gifts and graces "that one and the selfsame Spirit worketh, dividing to every man severally as He will" (1Co_12:11; Gal_5:22). In Old Testament the law was in the foreground, the Holy Spirit less prominent; in New Testament the Holy Spirit is prominent, the law in the background. Jesus was anointed with the Spirit without measure; we receive a measure out "of His fullness" (Joh_1:16; Joh_3:34). Jesus by His unction became Messiah or Christ (Isa_61:1). We receive a share of this "unction," whereby "we know all things" needful for salvation (1Jn_2:20).
The full outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Israel and on the nations is yet future (Isa_44:3; Isa_36:25-27; Zec_12:10; Joe_2:28), of which the earnest was given on Pentecost (Act_2:16; Act_2:21); the law of God, which is love, being written on the heart, instead of on stone as the Decalogue (Jer_31:33-34; Heb_8:8; Heb_8:12; Heb_10:16-17; 2Co_3:3). The triune benediction puts the Holy Spirit on a level with the Father and the Son, one God. So Rev_1:4-5, where "the Seven Spirits before God's throne," coming between God "who is, was, and is to come," and Jesus Christ, can only mean the ONE sevenfold divine Spirit (Isa_11:2-3).
Emmanuel/Immanuel is eternal and doing the creating.
Immanuel
IMMANUEL.―The name occurs in Isa_7:14; Isa_8:8, Mat_1:23, and is a Heb. word meaning ‘God is with us’ or God tabernacles with us. Its interpretation involves a discussion of Isa_7:1-25, esp. Isa_7:10-17.
The name of the child and Isa_7:16 speak of deliverance; Isa_7:15-17 and the rest of the chapter, of judgment.
Its application to the Virgin-birth.―The full discussion of the quotation in Mat_1:23 is part of the larger subjects of Messianic prophecy, the Virgin-birth, and the Incarnation. ‘Immanuel’ does not in itself imply that the child was regarded as God, but only that he was to be the pledge of the Divine presence, and endowed in a special sense with the spirit of Jehovah (cf. Isa_11:2). The Incarnation ‘fulfils’ such a prophecy, because Christ is the true realization of the vague and half-understood longings of the world, both heathen and Jewish.
Genesis 1:1 has the word “Bara”. Bara is the word creation. Bar means: Son of. Bara spelled backwards is arab. Ab=Abba/Father/Elohim. God is Lord, the Lord is light and the Holy Spirit is God, therefore the Holy Spirit is light and we are back to Genesis 1:3 which in geometry and Hebrew forms a Menorah which is also in Genesis 1:1 and in Revelation with the 7 candelabra's and the fourth one is man and we know the Jesus is the man in Revelation. This ties to Gen 1:15 which is the fourth day event. In the Menorah, the 4th candle is called the Christ Candle or the Servant Candle which ties us back to Psalms 22-24 and Isa 53. The death of Yeshua is 4000 years from Creation, on Passover on the 4th day of the week, in the middle of a set of years beginning on 27 CE which is on the first day of the week and He died in 30 CE which was a fourth day event. He returns at the end 6000 years from creation and going into 7000 years.
Conception for Yeshua is on December 22 or December 15 according to a Bible center sheet.
Mat_12:8  For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Mar_2:28  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Luk_6:5  And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
We know from these three passages that Leviticus 23 deals with the first and second coming of Yeshua/Jesus. We also know that His Conception was during Chanukkah as the Feast of Dedication and the Festival of Light.
The ninth month and 24th day is prior to this day.
Hag_2:10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
Hag_2:18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it.
Yeshua is the tebernacle and the adat/congregation is the Temple. But in the gospels we have this:
Mat_26:61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
Mar_14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
Joh_2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Joh_2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
Noah's Flood Timeline
The Flood began on Cheshvan 17th and it rained 40 days and 40 nights which brings us up to Hanukkah.
Gen 7:11  In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Gen 7:12  And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
Dec 15th was on the Sabbath in 4 BC according to Torahcalendar.
Hanukkah
Dedication, Day 1, John 10:22
Today is the Sabbath of Hanukkah which commemorates the eight days the Temple was rededicated in 165 B.C.E. In this year a miracle occurred when the Temple Menorah burned for eight days on a one day supply of oil. Today the Parashah is Va-Yeshev which means "And He Settled." Today is Shabbat Mevarekhin which means "Sabbath of Blessing." It is the last Sabbath before the New Moon.
Special Sabbath
Scripture Readings; Shabbat Hanukkah 1 (Sabbath during Hanukkah);
Haftarahs Zechariah 2:10-4:7; Brit Chadashah John 10:7-22

Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at (Heb. of wonder, or sign, as, Eze_12:11, Eze_24:24; : for, behold, I will bring forth my servant (Isa_42:1; Isa_52:13, Isa_53:11; Eze_34:23-24, Eze_37:24) the BRANCH (Virgo; Zec_6:12; Isa_4:2, Isa_11:1, Isa_53:2; Jer_23:5, Jer_33:15; Eze_17:22-24; Luk_1:78).

A Vision of a Golden Lampstand
Zec 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,
Zec 4:2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
Zec 4:3 And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
Zec 4:4 So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord?
Zec 4:5 Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
Zec 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zec 4:7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
Again we have a Menorah mentioned here which refers us back to the light in Gen 1:3 and the Hebrew and Geometry forms a Menorah and Genesis 1:1 which forms a Menorah and this ties us to Revelation 7 Candelabra's and the fourth one is the face of a man and we know this man as the Lord Jesus.
In Zechariah 2, we have the words glory in 2 places and we know that glory is another word for light.

Parashah #9 Scripture Readings; Va-Yeshev; (And He Settled); Torah Genesis 37:1-40:23; Haftarahs Amos 2:6-3:8

The heading for Va-Yeshev is And He Setteled. This to me is a reminder back to the word Immanuel (God is with us or God tabernacled among us).

Genesis 37-40 is the story of Joseph and his dream of the sheaths bowing down to him, the birth of his sons, the prison scene, and him becoming the son of Pharoah.
So now. Let us tie this: Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at (Heb. of wonder, or sign, as, Eze_12:11, Eze_24:24; : for, behold, I will bring forth my servant (Isa_42:1; Isa_52:13, Isa_53:11; Eze_34:23-24, Eze_37:24) the BRANCH (Virgo; Zec_6:12; Isa_4:2, Isa_11:1, Isa_53:2; Jer_23:5, Jer_33:15; Eze_17:22-24; Luk_1:78).
Branch (Virgo) to Matt 1-3 and Luke 1-3 with just a few key verses.
Mat 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
God is Lord, the Lord is light and the Holy Spirit is God, therefore the Holy Spirit is light and we are back to Genesis 1:3
Mat 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Mat 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (God tabernacled among us).
Virgo in the Heavens is also called: The Virgin
VIRGO-Prophecy of the promised seed of the woman. The Virgin H-virgin; A-branch/ear of corn Isa 7:14-A virgin will conceive
14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Virgin: In a prophecy concerning our Lord, Isaiah (7:14) says, "A virgin [R.V. marg., 'the virgin'] shall conceive, and bear a son" (comp. Luke 1:31-35). The people of the land of Zidon are thus referred to by Isaiah (23:12), "O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon;" and of the people of Israel, Jeremiah (18:13) says, "The virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing."
Desire of all nations: (Hag. 2:7), usually interpreted as a title of the Messiah. The Revised Version, however, more correctly renders "the desirable things of all nations;" i.e., the choicest treasures of the Gentiles shall be consecrated to the Lord. Hag 2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts.
Coming of Christ: (1.) with reference to his first advent "in the fulness of the time" (1 John 5:20; 2 John 7), or (2.) with reference to his coming again the second time at the last day (Acts 1:11; 3:20, 21; 1 Thess. 4:15; 2 Tim. 4:1; Heb. 9:28). The expression is used metaphorically of the introduction of the gospel into any place (John 15:22; Eph. 2:17), the visible establishment of his kingdom in the world (Matt. 16:28), the conferring on his people of the peculiar tokens of his love (John 14: 18, 23, 28), and his executing judgment on the wicked (2 Thess. 2:8).
Virgo was often drawn with a staff or rod in her right hand and an ear of wheat in her left hand.
Sceptre: (Heb. shebet = Gr. skeptron), properly a staff or rod. As a symbol of authority, the use of the sceptre originated in the idea that the ruler was as a shepherd of his people (Gen. 49:10; Num. 24: 17; Ps. 45:6; Isa. 14:5). There is no example on record of a sceptre having ever been actually handled by a Jewish king.
Yoke: (1.) Fitted on the neck of oxen for the purpose of binding to them the traces by which they might draw the plough, etc. (Num. 19:2; Deut. 21:3). It was a curved piece of wood called 'ol. (2.) In Jer. 27:2; 28:10, 12 the word in the Authorized Version rendered "yoke" is motah, which properly means a "staff," or as in the Revised Version, "bar." These words in the Hebrew are both used figuratively of severe bondage, or affliction, or subjection (Lev. 26:13; 1 Kings 12:4; Isa. 47:6; Lam. 1:14; 3: 27). In the New Testament the word "yoke" is also used to denote servitude (Matt. 11:29, 30; Acts 15:10; Gal. 5:1).
Wheat: one of the earliest cultivated grains. It bore the Hebrew name hittah, and was extensively cultivated in Palestine. There are various species of wheat. That which Pharaoh saw in his dream was the Triticum compositum, which bears several ears upon one stalk (Gen. 41:5). The "fat of the kidneys of wheat" (Deut. 32:14), and the "finest of the wheat" (Ps. 81:16; 147: 14), denote the best of the kind. It was exported from Palestine in great quantities (1 Kings 5:11; Ezek. 27:17; Acts 12:20). Parched grains of wheat were used for food in Palestine (Ruth 2:14; 1 Sam. 17: 17; 2 Sam. 17:28). The disciples, under the sanction of the Mosaic law (Deut. 23: 25), plucked ears of corn, and rubbing them in their hands, ate the grain unroasted (Matt. 12:1; Mark 2:23; Luke 6:1). Before any of the wheat-harvest, however, could be eaten, the first-fruits had to be presented before the Lord (Lev. 23: 14).
