Ab/Av July 22-August 22 2017

Ab/ Av  (Heb. "fruitful") 30 days  July 22-August 22

Gen 1:14; Lk 21:25-26
Av (Aleph-Bet) is the eleventh month of the civil year and the fifth month of the ecclesiastical year on the Hebrew calendar. The name Av literally means “father.” It derives from the root which means “to will” or “to desire.”

Letter: (tet) The letter tet, which resembles a womb, equals 9, corresponding to the 9 months of pregnancy which Jupiter is presently doing in Virgo. In the month of Av the 9 months are condensed and concentrated into 9 days, from Rosh Chodesh Av (the yahrtzeit of Aaron the high priest, whose name comes from the word “pregnant’) to the 9th of Av.

Zodiac Sign (mazal): Leo-Aryeh. It is quite possible and likely that this is related to the verse in Eichah, “He is a lurking bear to me, a lion in hiding.’ It seems that in the past, to some extent, Hashem has stood aside in theis month, and let the “wild animals’ of history have their way with us, to teach us where we would be without His protection.

THE RECORD OF THE FIFTH MONTH
Aaron died on Mount Hor on the first day of the fifth month in 1423 BC (Numbers 33:38).

2   The false prophet Hananiah prophesied the defeat of Babylon and was rebuked by Jeremiah in the fifth month in 594 BC  (Jeremiah 28:1).

3   Ezekiel prophesied of the coming judgment of God on Israel and the mercy to follow on the tenth day of the fifth month in 591 BC (Ezekiel 20:1). This chapter closes with a prophecy of fire on the land.
4
The Babylonian general Nebuzaradan burned Jerusalem on the seventh day of the fifth month in 586 BC (2 Kings 25:8-9).
5
Jerusalem was carried away captive in the fifth month (Jeremiah 1:3).  This occurred on the tenth day of the fifth month in 586 BC after the destruction of Jerusalem by fire (Jeremiah 52:12-16).

Zechariah was asked as to the propriety of continuing the fast of the fifth month in 519 BC (Zechariah 7:3-5). The fast was established to mourn the destruction of Jerusalem, but now Jerusalem was being restored.

Ezra arrived at Jerusalem from Babylon on the first day of the fifth month in 458 BC (Ezra 7:8-9).

1. Rosh Chodesh Av
Rosh Chodesh Av is always just one day, because the preceding month, Tammuz, is always "chaser," diminished; that is, it only contains twenty nine days. The month of Av, on the other hand, is always "malei," full; that is, it always contains thirty days. It is the eleventh civil month of the Jewish year. It was introduced after the Babylonian captivity. Num 33:38.

Num 33:38  And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

Chodesh Av
1 Av - 30 Av
"Chodesh Av," the Month of Av, contains the saddest day in the Hebrew Calendar, the Ninth of Av, a day on which too many tragedies have befallen our People for it just to be an accident. In Megillat Eichah, the Prophet Jeremiah's lamentation over the destruction of Jerusalem, its Temple and its People, this day is called a "Moed" in the sense of a day marked for tragedy.

Note: The Ninth of Av will be in its own paper.

Weather in Israel: Wind East. Air still and clear; heat intense; heavy dews. Crops: Principal fruit month--grapes, figs, walnuts, olives, etc. grape gathering begins (Lev 26:5).
Lev 26:3  If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
Lev 26:4  Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
Lev 26:5  And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

The mishna says: "As Av enters, we diminish joy". Rosh Chodesh Av is the beginning of the stricter mourning period for the destruction of the Beit HaMikdash  - First and Second Temple in Jerusalem. The restrictions of the Nine Days generally apply to Rosh Chodesh Av. (This is the Ashkenazi practice. S'faradim begin the restrictions on the second of the month). It is one of two months on whose Rosh Chodesh fasting is not forbidden.
Rosh Chodesh Av is the Yahrzeit (death) of Aaron the high Priest. It is the only Yahrzeit mentioned in the Torah. It is recorded, not in Parshat Chukat where we read of Aharon's passing, but in Mas'ei - which we read on the Shabbat closest to Rosh Chodesh Av.

Rosh Chodesh is Rosh Chodesh. It is a joyous and hopeful commemoration of the Beit HaMikdash/Temple in Jerusalem, not only its destruction. Notwithstanding the mournful nature of the first third of Av, we must keep in mind that after the 10th of the month, the consolation and promise for a brighter future takes over.
Rosh Chodesh Av conjures up a mixture of conflicting moods. That's okay. Is it contradictory to say Hallel on the day that ushers in a sad period? No. Being Jewish often means being able to see the bright side of sad times, and not forget the sad note at happy times.

May we soon merit the coming of Moshiach/Messiah and the rebuilding of the Beit HaMikdash - and everything that goes with it - and may our joy then become untarnished and complete.

Let us each put into action the qualities of Aharon HaKohen - love peace and pursue it, love people and bring them closer to Torah - so that the times we yearn for will become a reality, speedily in our time, Amen.

We pray that, in our time of blossoming religious life in the Land of Israel and around the world, we are living in the time that "Tisha B'Av" will become a "Moed," a "joyous festival," in the classic, joyful sense of the word, and we will shortly see the fulfillment of the verse "They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." (Eichah 3:23)

Radiant point for Delta Aquarii shower is near star Skat. This star is near in the sky to a much brighter star, Fomalhaut, which can be found roughly on a line drawn southward through the stars on the west side of the Great Square of Pegasus near Aquarius and above Pisces.
If you trace all the Delta Aquarii meteors backward, they appear to radiate from a certain point in front of the constellation Aquarius the Water Bearer.
Delta Aquarid meteors may come from Comet 96P Machholz. Meteor showers happen when our planet Earth crosses the orbital path of a comet. When a comet nears the sun and warms up, it sheds bits and pieces that spread out into that comet’s orbital stream. This comet debris slams into the Earth’s upper atmosphere at about 90,000 miles (150,000 km) per hour, vaporizing – burning up – as meteors or shooting stars.
The parent body of the Delta Aquarid meteor is not known with certainty. It was once thought to have originated from the breakup of what are now the Marsden and Kracht sungrazing comets. More recently, the Comet 96P Machholz has loomed as the primary candidate for being the Delta Aquarids’ parent body.
Donald Machholz discovered this comet in 1986 on May 12 (Month 3, Day 2, Month Day 2. It’s a short-period comet whose orbit carries it around the sun once in a little over five years. At aphelion – its greatest distance from the sun – this comet goes out beyond the orbit of Jupiter. At perihelion – its closest point to the sun – Comet 96P Machholz swings well inside Mercury’s orbit.
Comet 96P/Machholz last came to perihelion on July 14, 2012 and will next come to perihelion on October 27, 2017 (Cheshvan 7). Notice all the 7’s. We have completion. Hmmm!
Bottom line: The Delta Aquarid meteor shower rambles along pretty steadily in late July and August, coinciding with the Perseids.

Tu B'Av (Hebrew: ט"ו באב, the fifteenth of the month Av) is a minor Jewish holiday. In modern-day Israel, it is celebrated as a holiday of love (Hebrew: חג האהבה‎‎, Hag HaAhava), similar to Valentine's Day. It has been said to be a "great day for weddings".
Historical significance
According to the Mishna, Tu B'Av was a joyous holiday in the days of the Temple in Jerusalem, marking the beginning of the grape harvest. Yom Kippur marked the end of the grape harvest. On both dates, the unmarried girls of Jerusalem dressed in white garments, and went out to dance in the vineyards (Babylonian Talmud, tractate Ta'anit 30b-31a). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tu_B%27Av - cite_note-2 That same section in the Talmud states that there were no holy days as happy for the Jews as Tu B'Av and Yom Kippur. The holiday celebrated the wood-offering brought in the Temple (see Nehemiah 13:31). Josephus refers to it as the Feast of Xylophory ("Wood-bearing"). Neh 13:31  And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.

Various reasons for celebrating on Tu B'Av are cited by the Talmud and Talmudic commentators:
While the Jews wandered in the desert for forty years, female orphans without brothers could only marry within their tribe, to prevent their father's inherited land in the Land of Israel from passing on to other tribes. On the fifteenth of Av of the fortieth year, this ban was lifted.
That same year, the last of the generation of the sin of the spies, which had been forbidden to enter the Promised Land, found that they were not destined to die. For forty years, every Tisha B'av night, the Jews made graves for themselves in which they slept on Tisha B'Av; every year a proportion of them died. In the 40th year, the fifteen thousand who had remained from the first generation went to sleep in the graves and woke up the next day to their surprise. Thinking they made a mistake with the date, they did this until they reached Tu B'Av. Only then did they know they were allowed to live.
The Tribe of Benjamin was allowed to intermarry with the other tribes after the incident of the Concubine of Gibesh (see Judges chapters 19–21).
Cutting of the wood for the main altar in the Temple was completed for the year. The Day of the Breaking of the Ax - when the Holy Temple existed, the cutting of firewood for the altar was completed on this date every year. The event was celebrated by feasting, rejoicing, and the ceremonial breaking of the axes.
The Roman occupiers permitted burial of the victims of the massacre at Bethar during the Bar Kochba rebellion.  Miraculously, the bodies had not decomposed, despite exposure to the elements for over a year.

The fortress of Betar was the last holdout of the Bar Kochba rebellion. When Betar fell on the 9th of Av.
3893 (133 CE), Bar Kochba and many thousands of Jews were killed; the Romans massacred the survivors of the battle with great cruelty and would not even allow the Jews to bury their dead. For 15 years their remains were left scattered on the battlefield. When the dead of Betar were finally brought to burial on Av 15 of the year 3908 from creation (148 CE).

Perseids Shower; Jupiter at Theta Virginus in Virgo. Theta is the eighth letter of the Greek Alphabet. Eight means a new beginning. In its archaic form, θ was written as a cross within a circle. It came from the Phoenician letter "teth" which came from the Hebrew letter "tet".
Comet Swift-Tuttle
Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus which is west of Aries. This is because the direction, or radiant, from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as the constellation Perseus, which can be found in the north-eastern part of the sky.
While the skies are lit up several times a year by other meteor showers, the Perseids are widely sought after by astronomers and stargazers. This is because, at its peak, one can see 60 to 100 meteors in an hour from a dark place.
Comet Swift–Tuttle (formally designated 109P/Swift–Tuttle) is a periodic comet with a current (osculating)orbital period of 133 years. It fits the classical definition of a Halley-type comet with a period between 20 and 200 years. It was independently discovered by Lewis Swift on July 16, 1862 and by Horace Parnell Tuttle on July 19, 1862.

On the last day of Av of the year 2448 from creation (1313 BCE), Moses carved, by G-d's command, two stone tablets -- each a cube measuring 6x6x6 tefachim (a tefach, "handbreadth", is approximately 3.2 inches) -- to replace the two divinely-made tablets, on which G-d had inscribed the Ten Commandments, which Moses had smashed 42 days earlier upon witnessing Israel's worship of the Golden Calf.

Watch: Possibility of Jerusalem going into heavy war in this month of 2017 or 2018. This is what Av is leading up to because history repeats itself.

Their main objective is to keep control of the system once the reset occurs.
