Joshua and End Times

Joshua and End Times

JOSHUA or JEHOSHUA.
He was Hoshea only ("he will save"; Num 13:8; Deut 32:44) up to his noble witness after spying Canaan. Oshea. Henceforth, Jehovah's name is prefixed, Jehovah/Yehoshua by him would save Israel (Num_13:16; “Yahveh Is Salvation”). Jehovah is his help, or Jehovah the Saviour. He is also called Yeshua, a shortened form of Yehoshua. This is the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek name Iesous (Jesus). Thus the Greek title given to the book is Iesous Naus, “Joshua the Sun of Nun.” This forms the contrast in the Antitype (Mat_1:21), "thou shalt call His name Jesus, for Himself (Greek, not merely 'Jehovah by him') shall save His people." (Acts 7:45; Heb 4:8). Son of Nun, of Ephraim (1Ch_7:27)(B.C. 1530-1420). Born about the time when Moses fled to Midian, he endured in youth the slave labour amidst Egyptian brick kilns.

Joshua has been regarded as a type of Christ (Heb_4:8) in the following particulars:

In the name common to both; (2.) Joshua brings the people into the possession of the Promised Land, as Jesus brings his people to the heavenly Canaan; and (3.) as Joshua succeeded Moses, so the Gospel (the laws of God succeeds the Law (Laws of God). 2000 years ago, the Law of Sin and Death was fulfilled by Yeshua. The Laws of God will be in the Millenium.

Joshua was born in Egypt in: 1466 BCE, 1356, Num 1:29 Ex 33:1. He was 30-40 in Num 11:28; Josh 14:7 when he went to spy out the land. He was 68-78 when he entered Canaan (Josh 14:7; Deut 31:2). He died at the age of 110 (Judg 2:8).

Joshua's character. 'Jehovah is help.' To this outward calling his character also corresponded. It is marked by singleness of purpose, directness, and decision... He sets an object before him, and unswervingly follows it” (Bible Hist., iii. 103).

His name is symbolic of the fact that although he is the leader of the Israelite nation during the conquest, the Lord is the Conqueror. Joshua learned to rule by obeying first; then he ruled for God, not self.

Joshua and Caleb alone of all that generation who walked in the wilderness above 20 years of age survived the 40 years' wilderness wanderings that ensued, because "they wholly followed the Lord" (Num_32:11-12). Joshua was nearly forty years old when he shared in the hurried triumph of the Exodus.

1987/1988 Israel was 40 years of age.

Victory comes through faith in God and obedience to His word, rather than military might or numerical superiority.

Jehovah's "charge" by Moses was: "be strong and of a good courage, for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them, and I will be with thee."

Jehovah repeated the charge (Jos_1:1-9), enjoining" courage" in "doing according to all the law, turning not from it to the right or left," and promising consequent prosperity and Jehovah's continual presence as "his God wheresoever he went." God kept His promise, working mighty miracles in his behalf, and giving Israel all the land and rest round about; no good thing failed which the Lord had spoken (Jos_21:43-45).

Moses representing the law could not bring Israel into Canaan; that was reserved for Joshua. So Jesus perfects what the law could not, and brings His people into the heavenly inheritance (Act_13:39; Hebrew 4; Heb_7:19-25).

He leads His people through a Jordan-like flood of troubles and death itself without being overwhelmed (Isa_43:2). He bruises Satan under their feet (Jos_10:24; Psa_110:5; Mal_4:3; Rom_16:20). Jesus is the minister of the true circumcision (Jos_5:2-9; compare Rom_15:8; Rom_2:29; Col_2:11; Col_2:13).

The Book of Joshua is: "The doomsday book of Palestine," especially Joshua 13-23. Authenticated by Scripture references to the events recorded in it (Psa_78:53-65; Psa_28:21; Hab_3:11-13; Act_7:45; Heb_4:8; Heb_11:30-32; Jas_2:25).

Joshua after destroying the kings, so that Israel had rest from war in the open field, divided generally the land; but this is quite consistent with the after statements that years passed before the process of division was completed and the allotments finally settled. Joshua was directed to divide land not yet in Israel's actual possession (Jos_13:1-14;Jos_13:5). God designed that Israel should occupy the land by degrees, lest the beasts should multiply and the land be desolate (Exo_23:28-30); for instance, though the kings of Jerusalem and Gezer were slain, their people were not rooted out until long after.

The promise, Jos_1:2-5, is fulfilled (Joshua 2-12), the conquest of the land by Jehovah's mighty help, "from the wilderness and this Lebanon unto ... Euphrates ... and the great sea (the Mediterranean) toward the going down of the sun." The limit, the Euphrates, was not actually reached until Solomon's reign (1Ki_4:21), and the full realization awaits Christ's millennial reign (Gen_15:18; Psa_72:8); but the main step toward its fulfillment was taken.

The means of realizing this two-fold promise, "only be very courageous to do ... all the law ... turn not to the right hand or to the left ... this book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do all that is written therein ... for then thou shalt have good success .... Be strong and of a good courage for the Lord thy God is with thee wheresoever thou goest" (Jos_1:7-9),

The "three days" (Jos_1:11) are not the time within which the crossing actually took place, but the time allowed to the people to prepare for crossing: prepare victuals to be able to leave Shittim within three days, so as to be ready to cross Jordan. Here we see 3000 years to cross into the Messianic Kingdom. Two days and He rose on the third day. 2000 years and we rise on the third day.

The Book of Joshua contains a history of the Israelites from the death of Moses to that of Joshua. It consists of three parts:

(1.) The history of the conquest of the land (Josh. 1 - 12).

(2.) The allotment of the land to the different tribes, with the appointment of cities of refuge, the provision for the Levites (Josh. 13 - 22), and the dismissal of the eastern tribes to their homes. This section has been compared to the Domesday Book of the Norman conquest.

(3.) The farewell addresses of Joshua, with an account of his death (Josh. 23, 24).

This book stands first in the second of the three sections,

(1.) the Law, (2.) the Prophets,

(3.) the “other writings” = Hagiographa, into which the Jewish Church divided the Old Testament. There is every reason for concluding that the uniform tradition of the Jews is correct when they assign the authorship of the book to Joshua, all except the concluding section; the last verses (Jos_24:29-33) were added by some other hand.

There are two difficulties connected with this book which have given rise to much discussion,

(1.) The miracle of the standing still of the sun and moon on Gibeon. The record of it occurs in Joshua's impassioned prayer of faith, as quoted (Jos_10:12-15) from the “Book of Jasher” (q.v.). There are many explanations given of these words. They need, however, present no difficulty if we believe in the possibility of God's miraculous interposition in behalf of his people. Whether it was caused by the refraction of the light, or how, we know not.

(2.) Another difficulty arises out of the command given by God utterly to exterminate the Canaanites. “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” It is enough that Joshua clearly knew that this was the will of God, who employs his terrible agencies, famine, pestilence, and war, in the righteous government of this world. The Canaanites had sunk into a state of immorality and corruption so foul and degrading that they had to be rooted out of the land with the edge of the sword. “The Israelites' sword, in its bloodiest executions, wrought a work of mercy for all the countries of the earth to the very end of the world.”

The Word. Time frame: 1406-1401 BCE.

Jos 1:6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Jos 1:7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Jos 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Jos 1:11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

Jos 1:16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.

Every word of the Law came from YHVH and will be with us in the Millennium so we should be saying this to Yahveh when we read His word.

Compare this: Exod 24: 3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.

The Marriage contract is a legal binding document for us to uphold. We said that we would follow His laws when we were baptized.

Jos 1:18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

Josh 3 Crossing the Jordan River.

Joshua 3 Crossing the Jordan River at the time of the Spring Harvest. Abib 10
rose early: Archbishop Usher supposes, that this was upon Wednesday, the 28th of April, am 2553, the fortieth year of the Exodus from Egypt.

Jos 4:19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

Note: We now have two Jubilee counts going. In the end these two are 3 years apart (2017, 2020).

2478 1428, 1258 1414,1406-1401, 1572 BCE Abib אביב‎ 10 Jubilee count begins for walkinthelight.ca/timeline.htm Joshua ('Yahovah saves' ) leads Israel into "the promised land" Joshua 3:17 "And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of יהוה stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan," Joshua 4:1. "Children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho. And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year." Joshua 5:10,12.

It is 70 Jubilees till 5778/2018.

Exo 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: Yeshua entered Jerusalem on the 10th day which was a Sabbath.

Lev_16:29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: Day of Atonement.

Lev_25:9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. 2017, Day of Atonement 120th Jubilee year began.

Yeshua was baptized in the Jordan River where the crossing took place.

Gilgal. (a wheel; rolling). The site of the first camp of the Israelites on the west of the Jordan, the place at which they passed the first night after crossing the river, and where the twelve stones were set up which had been taken from the bed of the stream, Jos_4:19-20, compare Jos_4:3, where also they kept the first Passover in the land of Canaan, Jos_5:10. It was "in the east border of Jericho," apparently on a hillock or rising ground, Jos_5:3, compare Jos_5:9, in the Arboth-Jericho (Authorized Version "the plains"), that is, the hot depressed district of the Ghor which lay between the town and the Jordan. Jos_5:10.

In chapter 8:35-39 we have the renewal of the Covenant of Moses.

In chapter 10 we have another time frame where the Sun and Moon stood still for a day which is connected to the passing of Planet X/Nibiru/ El Shaddai/the destroyer.
1471 Sabbath Year (Shemitah)

1471, 1448, 1401-1406, 1404, 1279 (Rosh Chodesh??) Joshua's Long Day Joshua 10. July 22 (1404 Rosh Chodesh 5?); 1405 Pinchas Sabbath, others say Passover. Nibiru probability/possibility. It extended the day by 12 hours when the earth passed through the path of Nibiru. The meteor storm may have been 1 hour. China's shortest day was recorded around this timeframe as Joshua's longest day.

It was more likely around 1401-1406 time frame for this account.

1405 BC Kings Join against Israel Joshua 9; The Sun Stands Still Joshua 10 (1404, 2554?); Northern Palestine Defeated Joshua 11, 12. Pole Shift. In Joshua’s days c. 1398 B.C. the long day of Joshua (Josh 10:9-13).

1403 Sabbath Year (Shemitah)

1399 BC Land allotted among the Tribes Joshua 13 - 22

1396 Sabbath Year (Shemitah)

1392 BCE (2510), 1245 Joshua dies (Judges 2:8) at the age of 110.

Genesis to Joshua covers the bulk of Revelation time frames. So now we come to the close until I begin reading in the prophets. The writings (Judges-Song of Solomon) may tie in here and there but they will be sparce.
