Sabbath Rest by John Rasicci on Facebook

THE DAY THE LORD HATH MADE by John Rasicci on Facebook
Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
The Lord Jesus, when He was on Earth said, “When you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father… John 14:9.” He also said, “The Son can do nothing of Himself but what He seeth the Father do John 5:19.” What do we see Jesus doing? We see Him going about teaching, preaching, and healing all manner of sickness and disease (Matthew 4:23); we see Him healing every sickness and every disease among the people (Matthew 9:35). We can see then that the Father’s will is to heal.
We can also see something else about the healing ministry of Jesus. The Lord Jesus’ miracle healing ministry included several healings done on the Sabbath. In fact, in Luke 4:14-32 Jesus opened His preaching and healing ministry on the Sabbath. Have you ever noticed how the Gospel writers by the Holy Spirit did not mention that He did miracles on many different days although we know He did? The word Sabbath means to rest from labor and the seventh day. The very first healing we see from Jesus and what displays the heart of the Father is done on a certain day called the Sabbath. This is no coincidence.
God established the concept of rest from labor long before God gave the Law to Moses that incorporated the Sabbath rest principle in the Law (Genesis 2:2, 3). The Sabbath under the Law was to be kept holy where the people were to enter into rest Exodus 16:23-30. Six days labor, do all thy work, but the seventh do no work. Notice as the concept of the Sabbath was put into the Ten Commandments and further developed that the work that is forbidden by the Sabbath is man’s work Exodus 20:8-11. The Sabbath was a day when men were commanded not to work. Despite the Word of God warning about keeping the Sabbath, rarely did it define or give examples of what constituted work. The Pharisees (separate ones), a religious and political party known for insisting the law of God be observed especially rituals of purity did define it. By the time of Jesus’ ministry they had categorized Sabbath restrictions especially work in a code of oral traditions and thousands of specific rules for every situation or contingency. Of all the many regulations the Pharisees kept, the Sabbath laws stood at the top and they thought they kept these laws the best while looking down on others.
Now into this religious setting comes the ministry of Jesus healing on the Sabbath (Luke 4:31-37; Luke 4:38, 39; Luke 6:6-11; Luke 13:10-17; Luke 14:1-5; John 5:1-18; 7:23, 24; John 9:1-4). The first two had no opposition from the Pharisees, but last five all had significant opposition. Why on the Sabbath?
1. They are the core of His assault against the religious Pharisee-ism; the religious thinking of His day; religious system of His day; their adding requirements beyond God’s Word that became burdens and bondage.
2. They demonstrate the grace and mercy of God and that healing is the total work of God.
Remember the Sabbath was a day when men were commanded not to work so if a healing or miracle took place it had to be by the work of God, the grace of God because the Lord would not honor man’s own efforts on that day. That is why Jesus delighted in healing on the Sabbath. It pointed out God’s mercy and grace. Healing is a part of the total finished work of God.
The Old Testament concept of rest was introduced as a Sabbath rest and to cease from your labor and work. God announced in the Old Testament another day that would make this rest available. That day was the day of our redemption (Psalm 118:22-24) which we know to be the day Jesus died on the cross and paid the full price for our freedom. The Sabbath in the law was just a shadow of a reality and good things to come (Colossians 2:16, 17). The rest available under Christ knows no shadow. The rest, the ceasing from work and labor, is not for one day in a week but for a life available through faith in His finished work. This rest remains or continues to exist for us to enter into every day by a walk of faith in His grace.

Exo_31:16  Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Feast of Tabernacles/Millennium begins on the first Annual Sabbath of Feast of Tabernacles in 2018.

Gil Culwell Is there a trumpet blast before or during Tabernacles?

1 Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

John Ashcraft The Day of Trumpet is the day of rapture. It can be on the rabbinic Day of Trumpet or the Biblical day of Trumpet and is one year in advance of the Trumpet and Bowl Judgments of Revelation. Revelation has 3 time frames based on Day of Trumpet to Day ofAtonement. This is the 10 year tribulation, the one year called the Day of the Lord, and the 10 days called the Second Coming. The Day of the Lord and the Second Coming is under th global title of the Second Coming. Each day of Trumpet has a sign in the Sun, Moon, and Stars in the region of Leo the Lion of the tribe of Judah. For instance, the ten year one began in 2007 and ends in 2017. The tribulation will take place in the Bible lands of the Bible. The one year is on September 20th to 23rd timeframe and this is the year of the rapture. On the Day of Atonement begins with a global earthquake of 6.0-20.0. This earthquake is an axial poleshift. Then during Feast of Tabernacles, we have an Unscheduled Solar Eclipse brought in by Nibiru. It can be on Sukkot 1, 7, or 8. Then the Trumpet judgments begin for the first 5 months on the date the Flood began (Nov. 2) or the New Moon or Full Moon. Beginning with Abib/Aviv/Nisan the last 7 months has the Bowl judgments. Then the last ten days occurs with Marriage of the Groom and Bride and Armageddon on the Day of Atonement.

REPENT AMERICA, REPENT GLOBE NOW!!!

Jesus told this to me in a God dream in 2007 and the holes in His wrists are very real because I saw them. He said: You are my beloved bride who I love. May my Shalom (Peace, Wellness, Wholeness, Oneness, Blissfulness, etc) that passes all understanding cover your body, soul, spirit, and mind for all of eternity.

Tishrei 5777 5778 2017 Part 1

Tishrei 5777 5778 2017

VII. Tishrei  Freshet month (Yerah ha'etanim) (I Kgs 8:2)
Tishri Ethanin (Heb. Etanim, permanent) “ever-flowing streams,” “enduring,” “strong,” “everlasting,” and so on. 30 days. September 15-October 15 for the new moon. Seed time, grain ripening for season Weather: Wind NE. Dews heavy. Former or "early," autumnal, rains begin (Joel 2:23) to soften the ground (Deut 11:14), nights frosty (Gen 31:40). Crops: Plowing and sowing begin as soon as the ground is softened by the rain--in any weather as the time runs short (Prov 20:4; Ecc 11:4); cotton harvest.

The name Tishrei, was adopted by the Israelites upon their return from Babylon. The word “Tishrei” comes from the Syrian “tishrin,” and it means “beginning” or “commencement.”

  1. Ethanim:  the month of gifts, i.e., of vintage offerings; called Tisri after the Exile; corresponding to part of September and October. It was the first month of the civil year, and the seventh of the sacred year/Biblical year (1 Kings 8:2). Ethanim means: “ever-flowing streams,” “enduring,” “strong,” “everlasting,” and so on. This word ethanim, or eitanim, appears in Exodus 14:27, Amos 5:24, and Psalm 74:15. However, it does not only refer to rivers and streams. In and of itself the word means “strong” and “durable,” as in something that is eternal and indestructible. Even though it is most commonly used in reference to waters, the prophets also use it in reference to the foundations of the earth. See Micah 6:2. Job also uses it when speaking of strong and important people (Job 12:19).

As Anstey noted, "The 480 years of 1Kings 6:1 being the sum of the periods enumerated, omitting the six servitudes, the usurpation, and the two concurrent judgeships. Total: 480 years of Israel governed by God + 114 years of servitude and usurpation = 594 years".

Creation of the Earth was in the 7th Biblical month which was the first month until the Exodus in 1441-1446 BCE. So when you read that the Flood was in the 2nd month and 17th day then that is in the month of Cheshvan. The Flood occurred on November 2nd.
Creation took 6 days and the 7th day is a Day of Rest and Peace. 2 Peter 3:8 A day equals a thousand years as a 1000 years   equals a day. There was 2 days (2000 years) void of law; 2 days with law; 2 days with the Messiah and Law; and 1 day of rest/peace. A New Heaven and a New Earth begins on the 8th day.

2Ki_25:25  But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.

1Ch_27:10  The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.
Courses:  When David was not permitted to build the temple, he proceeded, among the last acts of his life, with the assistance of Zadok and Ahimelech, to organize the priestly and musical services to be conducted in the house of God.
(1.) He divided the priests into twenty-four courses (1 Chr. 24:1-19), sixteen being of the house of Eleazar and eight of that of Ithamar. Each course was under a head or chief, and ministered for a week, the order being determined by lot. Each course was named after a prominent member of the family, was subject to its president. Zacharias, John the Baptist's father, belonged to the eighth division, that of Abia (Lk 1:5)
(2.) The rest of the 38,000 Levites (23:4) were divided also into twenty-four courses, each to render some allotted service in public worship: 4,000 in twenty-four courses were set apart as singers and musicians under separate leaders (25); 4,000 as porters or keepers of the doors and gates of the sanctuary (26:1-19); and 6,000 as officers and judges to see to the administration of the law in all civil and ecclesiastical matters (20-32). This arrangement was re-established by Hezekiah (2 Chr. 31:2); and afterwards the four sacerdotal courses which are said to have returned from the Captivity were re-divided into the original number of twenty-four by Ezra (6:18).
In 1962 while excavating a synagogue at Caesarea archaeologists discovered fragments of a marble inscription that originally named the 24 priestly courses and the city where each moved after the destruction of the temple in 70 ACE. Nazareth is listed as the city of the 18th course, the town's earliest mention outside the Fulfilled Covenant.

End of the Church Age
End of the Church Age. If this week occurs as the Bible says, then this is the end of the church age. Rev 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Soon... very soon ... near ... soon. See Rev_1:1 on "what must happen very soon." The repetition adds to the urgency.
Rev 22:10  And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
Rev 22:11  He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Contrast these verses with Dan_12:9-10, where the prophet was told, "Daniel, go your way, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end." (See also Isa_8:16; Dan_8:26, Dan_12:4). Here Yochanan is told, "Don't seal up the words of the prophecy in this book, because the time of their fulfillment is near." Moreover, in Dan_12:10 Daniel is told, "Many will purify themselves." But here, "Whoever keeps acting wickedly, let him go on acting wickedly," because he is past the point of being able to repent (see Joh_12:39); yet compare Rev_22:17 below, still an invitation to repent.
Rev 22:12  And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Rev 22:13  I am Alpha/Aleph and Omega/Tav, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Rev 22:14  Blessed are they that do his (God’s) commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
Rev 22:16  I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Rev 22:18  For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Something to think about
Genesis: 1. Enoch taken 2. Angels fall/Giants rise 3. Noah and his tribe sealed 4. Global judgment begins (water) 5. Nimrod rises to power 6. Babylon's fall/Yahweh comes down 7. Abrahamic covenant pledged
Revelation: 1. Church/male-child taken 2. Angels fall/Giants return 3. 144,000 sealed 4. Global judgment begins (fire) 5. Beast rises to power 6. Babylon's fall/Yahweh comes down 7. Abrahamic covenant fulfilled
Three books are opened up on the Day of Trumpet and closed on the Day of Atonement. These are: 1) Book of Life; 2) Book of Luke-Warm; and 3) Book of Death. God examines each name in them, sets that persons justice, and then gives that justice in the following year. Judgment comes and your life may come to an end in that year.

Tishrei 1. Rosh Hashanah. Sept 21.  Day of the Trumpet
1-2 Tishrei On Rosh Hashanah, man is judged regarding his fulfillment of the purpose of the world's existence.
Lev_23:24  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
Num_29:1  And in the seventh month,  on the first day of the month,  ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.
Neh_8:2  And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.  515/516 Completion and Dedication of the Temple     Ezra 6:16 1500 years to 2016.

The sixth day of Creation was on the first of Tishrei. The Day of judgement for Adam as well as for all generations is alluded to by the Sixth Day: On the sixth day of Creation, man must account for his fulfillment of the Five Books of the Torah.
The Rabbinic Day of Rosh Hashanah is Sept 20th and 21. The Biblical Day of Rosh Hashanah is Sept 23rd Sabbath.
New Moon
The Jewish New Year Day of Judgment for the entire world. Extended, special synagogue services and blowing of the ram's horn - Shofar. Start of Ten Days of Repentance known as the Days of Awe. (Lev 23:24; Num 29:1-2). This is the Day of the Trumpet or the Day of the Lord. Some people refer to the Day of the Lord as the Day of Atonement.
On Rosh Hashannah, the shofar is blown a total of 99 times (3 sets with a group of 3 types of horning.
Since 2014, there has been a different name from the UN for the day of Peace. In 5778 it is the Day of Peace and Safety and in I Thess 5:2-6, the sudden destruction shall come.
This day is a Sabbath day so no work should be done.
Work Restrictions: Sabbath-like restrictions on work both days in both Israel and the diaspora.
Christ announced "Lamb of Elohim".
Matthew, Mark, and Luke says: The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. That means to me that everything occurring with Yeshua will occur on a Sabbath, 4th day, Rosh Chodesh (first sliver of the new moon), full moon, or the 7th day of Feast of Tabernacles.
Yeshua was conceived in 4 BC at Chanukkah (Festival of Lights and Feast of Dedication) on a Sabbath either on Dec. 15th or the 22nd. Born in the Fall on either Yom Teruah (Day of Trumpet) or on the first Annual Sabbath of Feast of Tabernacles in 3 BCE. Messianic’s teach Feast of Tabernacles. He was circumcised on the 8th day (A new beginning) on the Second Annual Sabbath. He began His ministry in 27 CE and baptized either in January (Michael Rood Chronological Gospels) or Day of Atonement (Biblical Astronomy article). Entered Jerusalem on a donkey in 29 CE (Shemitah year) on Abib 10 (Saturday), Month 1. Died on Passover (not a Sabbath) on Wednesday (4th day and 4th candle called the Christ candle or servant candle of the Menorah (7 candles)) (each candle represents a day and 1000 years). Buried on Thursday (Wednesday night by the time the first three stars came out which starts a new day). Possibly the men came out of the tomb when the stars had appeared and closed the tomb after the stars came out. This Day was the Feast of Unleavened Bread Annual Sabbath. Rose 72 hours later at the beginning of the Feast of First Fruits. Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) is the Messianic Kingdom at the Second Coming in 2018.

The Israelites crossed the Red Sea during the Exodus which was after the Spring Equinox. Passover of Yeshua occurred right on time after the Spring Equinox, so that places Yom Teruah rapture after the Fall Equinox so we are looking for the rapture to occur on the Biblical Day of Yom Teruah which is September 23rd which is the only Sabbath of the Days of Awe. 2 Thess 2:3-4; Jer 8:20.     Beginning of the 7 year Tribulation
The problem I have with numbers 3 and 4 is that if the beginning heavenly sign begins in the 7th month such as 5 planets lining up in a row on the 7th Day of Feast of Tabernacles in 2010, then the end sign 7 years later should be on the Day of Trumpet according to Revelation 12:1 and 11 –7th Trumpet and the only one between 2017 and 2100 + is the one on Sept. 23rd, 2017.

Day of Trumpet –rapture (Lev 23:24-25; Zeph 1:14-16—Day of the Lord is a Day of Trumpet and Alarm; Matthew 24:31 (Day of Trumpet; I Cor 15:52 (Day of Trumpet); I Thess 4:16-18 (Day of Trumpet); Rev 6:12-17 (Day of Trumpet/Day of Atonement); Rev 11:15 ff-Day of Trumpet Typology; Rev 12:1 (Virgo/Leo, Sept 20-23, 2017.
As for the rapture party on any given Day of Trumpet, the Flood had 500 million to 4 billion die and only 8 survived (remnant). Sodom and Gomorrah had 1,250,000 die during Passover Week and 3 survived, 2 were bad apples and only one redeemed (Lot) which makes few. Deut 1 has only those who wholly follow the Lord will enter the Promised Land and children under the age of not knowing right from wrong. Tithe = 10 percent. 90 percent goes through the Trumpet and Bowl judgments of Revelation and then go to the lake of fire and brimstone. So we have 1 percent or less of humanity going into the Promised Land and 90 percent going to the lake of fire and brimstone. This leaves 2-9 percent of which 50/50 (Matt 24:37-42; Matt 25:1-14) going into the Promised Land or lake of fire and brimstone. This 2-9 percent are called the Luke warmers.
Shabbat Shuvah or Shabbat T'shuvah ("Sabbath [of] Return" שבת שובה or "Sabbath [of] Repentance" שבת תשובה) refers to the Shabbat that occurs during the Ten Days of Repentance, but is between (i.e. not including) the two consecutive Days of Rosh Hashanah, and the Day of Yom Kippur.   Deut. 32:1-52;   Hos. 14:2-10, Mic. 7:18-20, Joel 2:15-27. Lev 12:1-3.
Some believe the rapture will occur on the Rabbinic Day of Yom Teruah and that on the Biblical Day of Yom Teruah the restrainer will be taken away and the Antichrist comes on the scene full force. By the end of the year, our government wants to kill 300 million Americans and Mark of the Beast comes to power.

This process was completed by Sargon II with the destruction of the kingdom in 722 BCE, concluding a three-year siege of Samaria begun by Shalmaneser V. The next experience of exile was the Babylonian captivity, in which portions of the population of the Kingdom of Judah were deported in 597 BCE and again in 586 BCE by the Neo-Babylonian Empire under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar II.
Before the middle of the first century CE, in addition to Judea, Syria and Babylonia, large Jewish communities existed in the Roman provinces of Egypt, Cyrene and Crete and in Rome itself; after the Siege of Jerusalem in 63 BCE, when the Hasmonean kingdom became a protectorate of Rome, emigration intensified. In 6 CE the region was organized as the Roman province of Judea, but the Judean population revolted against the Roman Empire in 66 CE during the period known as the First Jewish-Roman War which culminated in the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE (70+1948 years= 2018 (Psalm 118)). During the siege, the Romans destroyed the Second Temple and most of Jerusalem. This event marked the beginning of the Roman exile, also called Edom exile. Jewish leaders and elite were exiled from the land, killed, or taken to Rome as slaves.
In 132 CE, the remaining Jews, under Bar Kokhba, rebelled against Hadrian, per Cassius Dio, in response to Hadrian's renaming of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina. In 135 CE, Hadrian's army defeated the Jewish armies and Jewish independence was lost. As punishment, Hadrian exiled more Jews, and forbade the Jews from living in their capital.
During the Middle Ages, due to increasing geographical dispersion and re-settlement, Jews divided into distinct regional groups which today are generally addressed according to two primary geographical groupings: the Ashkenazi of Northern and Eastern Europe, and the Sephardic Jews of Iberia (Spain and Portugal), North Africa and the Middle East. These groups have parallel histories sharing many cultural similarities as well as a series of massacres, persecutions and expulsions, such as the the expulsion from England in 1290, expulsion from Spain in 1492, and the expulsion from Arab countries in 1948-1973.

Christians who celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur a growing trend
'We're obeying God's commandments'

NEW YORK (JTA) — On the night of Rosh Hashanah, thousands of people will leave work, gather in congregations across the globe and worship God, the ruler of the world. Ten days later they will begin a fast and gather again to pray, this time atoning for their sins.
On both occasions they will praise Jesus Christ and pray for his return.
They are not Jews, nor are they Jews for Jesus. Rather, these congregants are members of an evangelical Christian movement called the Living Church of God. On the days Jews know as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, these Christians celebrate what they call the Feast of Trumpets and Day of Atonement.
“We’re not trying to be Jewish,” said Dexter Wakefield, a Living Church minister and the church’s spokesman. “We’re obeying God’s commandments. The holy days have great meaning for the Christians who keep them.”
Living Church of God is one of a few evangelical groups that observes Christianity as it believes Jesus observed it, according to the dictates of the Hebrew Bible. That means no Christmas and no Easter — holidays the church rejects as pagan in origin. It also means that members observe their Sabbath like the Jews: from Friday night to Saturday night. The mainstream Christian custom of observing the Sabbath on Sunday, they believe, is another deviation from the authentic Christianity of Christ.
Though the Living Church of God, which has about 10,000 members, advocates observing the Sabbath on Saturday as well as Jewish holidays, they are not Messianic Jews, who self-identify as Jewish and use Hebrew scripture and liturgy. Nor are they Seventh-day Adventists, who observe a Saturday Sabbath but no other Jewish holidays.
The church has nearly 400 congregations on six continents, and most of its membership is in North America, with headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is governed by a Council of Elders and is an ideological outgrowth of the philosophy of Herbert Armstrong, whose preaching of Old Testament observance inspired several churches that see themselves outside of the evangelical mainstream.
For the Living Church of God, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur — the former begins this year on the evening of September 20 and the latter at sunset September 29 — are two of seven festivals celebrated across the year. Those festivals correspond to the five Jewish holidays commanded in the Torah – Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover and Shavuot. The church gets to seven by treating Shemini Atzeret, the holiday at the end of Sukkot, as a separate festival, and by splitting Passover in two – the first day and everything that comes afterward.
“These days were clearly commanded in the Old Testament, and their observance by Christ and the Apostles in the New Testament certainly ratifies them for the Christian Church,” the church’s founder, Roderick Meredith, wrote in a pamphlet. “True Christians are to keep holy the days God made holy. And we are to follow the example of Jesus and the original Apostles in so doing.”
These holidays correspond to the annual agricultural cycle, and have also taken on Jewish historical significance. But for the church, they reflect steps in the second coming of Jesus and the world’s ultimate redemption.
Rather than marking the New Year, Rosh Hashanah — a one-day holiday called the Feast of Trumpets, a reasonably literal translation of its name in the Torah, Yom T’ruah — marks the day when Jesus will appear again hailed by trumpets. Yom Kippur, translated as the Day of Atonement, marks the day when Satan will finally be defeated.
The church celebrates each day with a service — short by Jewish High Holiday standards — that includes a short and long sermon on the theme of the day, bookended by hymns. Like observant Jews, on the Day of Atonement congregants will take the day off and abstain from eating and drinking. But on the High Holidays they dispense with Jewish rituals like dipping apples in honey, wearing white robes known askittels or blowing a shofar.

And while Jews have special prayer books meant just for the High Holidays, Wakefield said there isn’t a traditional set of hymns to sing on either day.
‘Occasionally someone will bring a shofar just for the fun of it’
“Occasionally someone will bring a shofar just for the fun of it,” said Wakefield, who served as a pastor to several Florida churches before moving to work in the church’s headquarters. “It’s not a particular ritual that we do. It’s a delightful thing to do.”
Four days after the Day of Atonement, the church’s congregations will leave their homes for a temporary dwelling, as Jews do on Sukkot. But that dwelling will be a resort or motel – not a sukkah made of cloth, wood and branches. The church sees the holiday as a time to leave home and gather in another place, but that place need not be open to the elements.
The church also observes several other Old Testament commandments. Members refrain from eating foods expressly prohibited in the Bible — like shellfish — and abstain from work from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, mostly corresponding to the Jewish Shabbat. But there is no set of prohibited practices on Saturday.
‘If you work at the factory during the week, you’re not working by sundown Friday’
“We teach that you do not do your weekly labor,” Wakefield said. “If you work at the factory during the week, you’re not working by sundown Friday.”
While most evangelical groups do not observe the Old Testament like the Living Church of God, many do ascribe significance to some of its commandments. Many evangelical leaders, for example, have cited Leviticus in their opposition to same-sex marriage. And some evangelical groups have voiced support for displaying the Ten Commandments at courthouses.
Cynthia Lindner, director of Ministry Studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School, says Christians are drawn to these verses because they define codes of interpersonal conduct.
“There are [Old Testament] texts that are focused on prescribing behavior far more so than in the New Testament,” she said. “The texts and codes of the Hebrew Bible are easily appropriated when you want to make an argument about behavior.”
In recent years, some evangelical groups have held Passover seders, partly as a re-enactment of Jesus’ Last Supper, considered to have been itself a seder. Other Christian groups, including some Christian Zionists, have taken on other Jewish rituals, such as wearing a prayer shawl or blowing a shofar.
“I think a lot of Christians have the idea that Judaism is more authentic, more ancient, closer to the will of God than what a lot of the churches have become in modern times,” said Jon Levenson, a professor of the Hebrew Bible at Harvard Divinity School. “There’s this notion that church tradition has gotten farther and farther from the real word of God, and that somehow the Jews and their Bible is closer to the real word of God, and we should start taking those things on.”
But for the Living Church of God, Rosh Hashanah is about more than hearkening back to ancient times. It’s about the imminent redemption of the world through Jesus.

“Can we picture a massive trumpet blast literally shaking the earth to announce Christ’s return as King of Kings?” Meredith’s pamphlet reads. “Can we picture the true saints of God — who follow Him wherever He goes — rising to meet Christ in the air, to join forever with their Savior and assist Him in ruling this rebellious planet? All of these things will be heralded by the seventh trumpet!”
